Yonatan Tewelde is from Eritrea and is currently a doctoral student of Media arts and studies at Ohio University. He has a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Asmara, in Eritrea and studied for his masters of Communication degree at Yasar University in Turkey and Koblenz University in Germany. At Ohio University, Yonatan did his MA in Communication for Development and worked with the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Institute at Ohio University as a communication specialist. Yonatan has more than ten years of experience in digital video production and has worked as a videographer, editor and photographer working mainly with African artists in different projects ranging from feature films to documentaries and music videos. Yonatan’s research interests hover around visual culture and online spheres. His recent and ongoing projects have focused on semiotic analysis, contentment analysis, technologies and spaces of political participation and participatory communication.
