When I first started the Social Media Certificate program, I knew I would learn valuable material for my career after leaving Ohio University. However, after two years in the program, I had a photograph campaign go viral.
The campaign, “Defying Stereotypes” was a collaborative effort with my sorority, Delta Gamma, and I was able to apply what I had learned in class. At first, it seemed that the instant success was sheer luck but as the media attention started to slow, I began to realize just how much I used my knowledge from the certificate program in order to help the campaign snowball. It began in knowing that emotional ties would anchor the whole series, faces of the women would give the audience a connection and that if we released the campaign all at once on a certain day, it would have more of an impact than if we released the photographs one by one. From there, we relied on the network that our different platforms provided. My campaign has been featured on The Today Show, Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, Cosmopolitan and many more. It’s still growing and I only hope it will continue to grow and spread our message.
Thanks to this campaign, I have been able to recognize the significance of what the certificate has done for me and I am incredibly eager to finish out the program and continue on into a career that will only further my internet success. I’ve already started planning out other campaigns and different strategies in order to effectively market them from the start. I have been asked to photograph other campaigns and series as well to publically speak about the viral nature of this one series. This certificate has only served to open doors for me and I see monumental things in my future because of this program choice.
