Thanks to the prevalence of smartphones, we now bring social media everywhere we go. We think the world is within reach through social media. Entertainment is shared by simple clicks on Facebook; revolution happens through retweets on Twitter; and mundane life becomes attractive and marketable on YouTube.

The semester is on to a great start! The brand new course in social media analytics is being well received by students in the Scripps College of Communication as it advances their social media skills to a new level. As part of the Social Media Certificate, the course is already proving to be a game changer.

However, after two years in the program, I had a photograph campaign go viral. Throughout high school, you’re told you can be a doctor, a lawyer, a teacher, a business person, etc. These are all great careers for many people, but none felt quite right for me.
