Throughout the semester, we will be posting job/internship openings that are relevant to the social media industry. The social media certificate is the perfect way to get you ahead and give you a leg up when it comes to applying for these types of positions. These employers are looking for those who have extensive knowledge the social media field, and you’ll notice that many of the descriptions for these jobs have requirements that link directly back to key topics that are taught in the certificate courses.
1) Assistant Analyst, Display and Social Marketing – Abercrombie and Fitch
Working for a big-name company like Abercrombie and Fitch is something that some people only dream of. This job opening requires a little more than just social media duties, however, many positions are becoming more integrated as professionals are expected to have a vast skill set. Cool Factor: not only will you get to assist in copywriting for A&F’s social media profiles, but you’ll also get to dive into analytics and tracking the translation of messages in foreign markets.
2) Social Media Communications Intern – Cleveland Indians
Although this is opening is an internship and not a full-time job, interning for a company like the Cleveland Indians is a great way to get your foot in the door post-grad and while you’re still in school. This internship requires extra hours outside of the office and a strong grasp of the world of baseball, so its perfect for sports lovers who are interested in the social media industry. Job duties aren’t just limited to social media outlets – you’re required to create content for Indians.com and the TribeVibe blog. Cool Factor: You get to attend and work at home games as well as interact with the fans. Oh, and you’ll also get to do real-time corresponding for MLBAM.
3) Digital Strategist - Rockfish
The cool thing about social media is that the types of jobs you can apply for are seemingly endless. Rockfish is a full-service digital innovation partner that works with companies to help increase their online engagement. The digital strategist position is about more than just social media; it’s an all-encompassing job that requires extensive knowledge on SEO, analytics, mobile marketing and CRM. When you’re working for clients, you must do research for them in addition to the work, so knowing effective research methods is a plus in this particular job. Cool Factor: You get to work with exciting, big-name clients such as P.F. Chang’s, the Horseshoe Casino and Sam’s Club.
4) SMG Digital – Social Media Manager
Following suit with social media agency jobs, SMG Digital is a digital marketing agency that is ROI-driven. Described as “social media explorer,” this job requires more than just your average day-to-day social media duties. You will work with marketing automation tools, analyze data to reflect on how your content marketing is performing and work directly with clients.
