Scripps College of Communication student Eric Tiu is enjoying the support of the Scripps Howard Foundation. After being named one of two winners in the Scripps Next Top Intern contest, Tiu was able to accept an exclusive internship with the Miss Universe Organization in New York City. A video production major, Tiu has traveled to Ecuador with Ohio University’s Tropical Disease Institute and “realized the power that media has to influence and change our world.”
Tiu’s infatuation with Ohio University and the Media Arts & Studies School began on his campus tour. “I visited OU and the Media School and immediately fell in love. Ohio University was the only college I applied to.”
Tiu began his involvement on campus his freshman year with AVW Productions, a student-run media production organization. His production experience ranges from numerous video projects for classes to producing the winning short film of the 48-Hour Shootout, a film competition between media students. He has also been awarded Best Segment and Best Leader in AVW Productions.
Tiu's future is bright. “I hope to be in a position where I can use my digital media skills in a direct and positive way. My goal is to one day work for an organization that directly benefits people, such a non-profit or educational institution.”
A senior in the School of Media Arts & Studies, Tiu will intern in New York January through June 2015, alongside sophomore Evan Schmidt, who will be featured in another piece.
