The Ohio University School of Media Arts & Studies will host the Media Sales Institute on May 10 – 22, 2015. The NAE Education Foundation Media Sales Institute is an intensive 10-day “boot camp” where students are immersed in learning electronic media advertising sales and sales techniques.
The curriculum is designed to provide an introduction into media sales for talented students of diverse backgrounds, training candidates in radio, television, cable, digital and Internet sales. More than 75 percent of the participants are hired by media companies two weeks to one month following their participation in the program.
Jaymes Romanofski, of Orlando, Fla., said he jumped at the chance to attend in 2014 after being out of school for a year and still looking for a job in the industry.
“I wanted to gain experience and further certification in the industry,” he said, adding that he learned about the opportunity at an NAB job fair. “I’ve learned how to sell on multiple levels: to sell myself, products and stations; and also to create a product that works for the client.”
The training program is part of NABEF’s commitment to expand diversity in radio and television broadcasting. The program helps students to begin their careers in media sales and to advance within the broadcast industry. This is the third year that Ohio University has been chosen to host the Institute, and there are three other hosts across the country.
