Attendees of the 2014 MDIA High School Media Workshop.
The School of Media Arts & Studies has launched registration for its 2015 High School Media Workshop which offers high school students the opportunity to interact with our faculty while learning the latest techniques in audio & music, video, animation, social media, and specializations in many additional academic areas. Interested students are encouraged to register today as space is limited.
In July 2014, more than 50 students converged upon Athens for this Scripps College of Communication and School of Media Arts and Studies sponsored event. Participants came from seven states, including California, Alabama and New Jersey. “The depth of enthusiasm that these young media makers demonstrated was inspiring,” said workshop Director Karen Riggs, a professor in the School of Media Arts and Studies. “Most students were incoming seniors, and we cannot wait to see many of them on the Athens campus in the coming year.”
Taking place in Athens from July 8-11, attendees of the 2015 workshop interested in Media Arts will:
- Participate in hands-on workshops to learn skills and trends in audio and video production, animation and game design, careers in social media, and specializations in many additional academic areas.
- High school juniors and seniors with a grade point average of 3.0 or above are eligible to receive one free hour of college credit upon enrollment in Ohio University's School of Media Art's & Studies.
- Get acquainted with MDIA faculty and enjoy the beautiful Athens campus.
- Network with media students from across Ohio and beyond.
- Registration is $375 and includes a three-night stay in the Ohio University dorms (Shively Hall) as well as all meals and bed linens / pillow.
- All students will enjoy a three-night stay on our beautiful campus complete with engaging sessions and exciting activities. Parking passes are also available during registration.
- A limited number of competitive scholarships are available for students from underrepresented groups.
“I’ve been planning on going into audio production and recording at OU for a while, but I've never known how to get started,” said 2014 workshop participant Alana Baldwin, who attended as an Athens High School sophomore. “The camp gave me the knowledge and experience to really get going on my career.”
“Each participant brings to Athens a unique and creative spirit, which makes for a collaborative and powerful educational experience," said Kyle P. Snyder, also an instructor in the school and Associate Director of the workshop. “Seeing what these students create after just meeting and spending mere hours together is a testament to our fantastic instructors and to the talent of these future media creators.”
