Undergraduate Admission Requirements

As an integral part of the Scripps College of Communication Center of Excellence, there is strong demand to join our program.  Because of this demand, the School of Media Arts & Studies has entry specifications above Ohio University’s typical requirements. All applicants should meet or exceed the following guidelines: 

  • Standardized test score of 23 or higher on the ACT, and/or
  • Standardized test score of 1060 or higher on the SAT 
  • Top 40% of their high school graduating class

Honors Tutorial College

For students who demonstrate outstanding high school performance, the School of Media Arts & Studies recommends a major through the Honors Tutorial College.  Ideal HTC applicants should have:

  • Minimum standardized test score of 30 or higher on the ACT, and/or
  • Minimum standardized test score of 1300 or higher on the SAT
  • Top 10% of their high school graduating class

Additional Options for Admissions

Students who are not initially accepted into the School of Media Arts & Studies may submit updated grades and/or test scores for additional consideration by February 1st.  Please direct this material to Ohio University Undergraduate Admissions, c/o Jessie Carter, 120 Chubb Hall, Athens, OH 45701. 

Students whose high school records do not meet our requirements, but still meet the standard university requirements for admission, may apply for transfer into our program after demonstrating strong academic performance during their first year or two in college. Students seeking to enter our program in this fashion should first apply to University College. Once admitted, students who meet the requirements for transfer may apply for entry into our school in October.
