Following last month’s trip to the South by Southwest Conference in Austin, TX, 24 Ohio University students will be hosting two panel discussions to share about their experiences.
There will be two separate panel events, one on Thursday April 16th from 8:00-9:00PM and the other on Tuesday April 21st from 9:00-10:00PM. Both events will be held in the Schoonover Center Lobby, with a different group of trip participants presenting on each night.
The SXSW students will present about the conference and will address the many recent industry trends that were discussed throughout the conference. Panelists will share from the insights gained from multiple panels, interview events, and the information sessions they attended.
Another key topic of the panels will be the student networking experiences from the trip. Students spent considerable time engaging with multiple industry professionals and had the exclusive opportunity to schedule one-on-one mentoring sessions with leaders in their career field. As a result, 85% of this year’s attendees reported that they were able to make two or more significant connections for internships in other cities, with some students already interviewing for or being offered summer internships with major companies and music-industry based organizations. Nearly all participants in this year’s SXSW trip found that they were able to make significant professional connections within a field that they are currently majoring in.
Student panelists will also share about some of their best experiences at South by Southwest and what it was like to be in the heart of the music and media industry for the week.
Faculty and students are welcome to attend both sessions, especially Ohio University students who have an interest in attending next year’s South by Southwest trip. For more information, email the MDIA SXSW coordinator Josh Antonuccio at firstname.lastname@example.org
