This semester, the Ohio University School of Media Arts & Studies continues a series celebrating our newest faculty members. This week, we continue by featuring Laeeq Khan.
Laeeq Khan is an educator, researcher and a social media strategist with extensive experience in data analytics, digital literacy, and web design. Dr. Khan is a proud alumnus of Michigan State University’s School of Journalism and he is pleased to be joining the School of Media Arts & Studies as an Assistant Professor of Social Media Analytics and co-Director of the SMART Lab. He has extensive international teaching experience and is moving to Athens, Ohio this December from the American University of Ras AlKhaimah (near Dubai) where he was teaching, besides researching and helping set up a new program in media and communication. He has been active in developing new courses and motivating students in launching a student-run newspaper and producing videos. Previously, he has served as the coordinator of an undergraduate business program. All these rich experiences put him at a unique position to enrich and foster research in social media analytics at Ohio University.
Dr. Khan has worked on several research projects including Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the National Science Foundation. Most of his work has been published in conferences, book chapters, and journals of international repute. His research has centered on new media effects on society in general and on organizations and businesses in particular. In particular, he studies the motivations for online engagement and how content affects attitudes, opinions, and behaviors. He has consulted in the field of social media in the United States and abroad for over five years.
Dr. Khan enjoys traveling and the outdoors. He loves hiking, ice-skating, and spending time with his family. He and his family are excited to move back to the United States where they have already spent many years. Feel free to get in touch with him via Twitter: @drlaeeqkhan.
