The Media Arts & Studies student organization Women In the Music Industry (WIMI) is hosting their first-ever fundraising Galentine's Gig this Friday, February 15th. The event will showcase a roster of talented, local and regional female artists including – Megan Wren, Caitlin Kraus, Allison DeWitt, Magnolia Child, and Lexi Murray. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the show will run from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are highly encouraged as the funds will directly support WIMI.
"It has been a long-time goal of ours to host a showcase of local, female talent," said Megan Wren, MDIA Music Production & Recording Industry senior and Social Media Chair for WIMI, who will be performing at the Galentine's Gig. "We expect a great show and are especially hopeful that the community will come out in support of WIMI."
"We love to give female identifying students, artists, and mentors a platform to shine," said Diana Buchert, MDIA Music Production & Recording Industry senior and Operations Chair of WIMI. "This organization means a lot to me and has aided in my career growth, while additionally giving me a family of hardworking and fun people to learn alongside of."
WIMI strives to bring inclusive experiences to MDIA and Ohio University female students, with the goal of empowering, connecting, and inspiring them for future careers in the music industry. Donations from the Galentine's Gig will allow the organization to fund experiences such as guest speakers and mentors, various workshops and music-related events, as well as group travel.
