MDIA's Greg Newton Appointed Interim Associate Dean For Graduate Studies, Research, & Creative Activity
Scripps College of Communication Dean Scott Titsworth announced the appointment of Greg Newton as the interim associate dean for graduate studies, research, and creative activity for the 2016-17 academic year. The appointment began on July 1.
“Greg served as graduate director in the School of Media Arts & Studies and has extensive experience working with graduate students—both of which make him an ideal candidate for this position,” Titsworth said in a June 27 email to the college’s faculty and staff.
Prior to Newton’s appointment in the Scripps College of Communication Dean’s Office he served as an associate professor in the School of Media Arts & Studies. He also worked as an assistant professor in the College of Journalism & Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma. He received his bachelor of arts in communication studies from Northern Illinois University, his master of arts from Northwestern University, and his doctorate from Indiana University.
Newton will fill the position in the Dean’s Office as Michelle Ferrier, associate dean for innovation, research/creative activity and graduate studies, transitions to a faculty position in the E. W. Scripps School of Journalism later this summer.
“I want to thank Michelle for her leadership and service for the past three years,” said Titsworth. “She has done a tremendous service in support of faculty, our students, and programs throughout the college.”
