Brick City Records (BCR), Ohio University’s student-run record label, is gearing up for another year of showcasing the finest talent throughout the region. The label -- which transitioned two years ago into the Production/Recording Industry (MPRI) major senior capstone -- gives students the opportunity to oversee the operations of a real record label and gain hands-on industry experience. Students use the skills they have learned in previous classes to work with rising bands and artists to nurture their talent, produce an EP or single of their original music, promote and market the releases, and curate a special event to showcase the music in a live setting.
BCR is currently in the A&R process, in which students pitch regional artists they have discovered for the label to sign. This process is headed by this year’s Director of A&R, De’Vaughn Williams. De’Vaughn is a senior in the MPRI program, and is working alongside other department heads, including: Conshea Brown (Executive Producer), Faith Galloway (Director of Marketing & Promotions), Michael Salopek (Publicity Director), and Megan Pixler (Social Media Coordinator). Working under the department leaders is a staff of talented students who are thrilled about undertaking this important project and the benefits it will provide for their careers.
