Five Music Production & Recording Industry majors recently traveled to New York City to attend the 145th international pro audio convention held by the Audio Engineering Society. The convention featured a handful of discussion panels, keynotes, demo rooms, and exhibits relating to live sound, studio recording, home recording, music production, game audio, sound for picture, audio for virtual and augmented reality, and more.
“This was a great experience for each of us,” said Megan Sulfsted, Chair of OU’s Student Section of AES. “We each gave some time to volunteer at the convention, so we were able to get all-access badges for free. We then got to spend time at panels and exhibits that were of specific interest to us; my personal favorite was a talk with engineer and producer Al Schmitt, who has worked with many of my favorite artists, from Sam Cooke to Paul McCartney.”
The OU Student Section of AES is hosting a follow-up discussion panel about the trip this Thursday, Nov 1, from 6-7pm in Schoonover 380. Future travel opportunities will also be discussed. All students with an interest in audio are encouraged to attend.
