Students from the School of Media Arts & Studies recently visited the Iwate Prefecture in Japan to assist with the Tsunami Restoration Project. The students were accompanied by MDIA professor, Steve Howard. Pictured with Howard are MDIA students Dakota Williams and Steven Friedman-Romell who are now studying Japanese at Chubu University this year.
Professor Howard was recently appointed director of the Center for International Studies. This newly-created full-time position is a collaboration between the Office of Global Affairs and International Studies and the Scripps College of Communication. Howard has more than 30 years of experience working in international education with a focus on African studies and communication. His extensive experience is auspicious given the increasing importance of communications in international relations and the prominence of Africa in this era of globalization.
