This summer, Ohio University School of Media Arts & Studies students will be working on the fourth season of the Gladden House Sessions, a video series produced in partnership with WOUB Public Media at the 2017 Nelsonville Music Festival (NMF).
The episodes of the Gladden House Sessions will be shot on location at NMF from June 1st - June 4th. This series features artist interviews and stripped-down acoustic performances from the festival, all from the porch of the historic Gladden House in the Robbins Crossing village. Gladden House producer/host and MDIA instructor Josh Antonuccio leads a team of MDIA students who handle all aspects of production, including multi-camera shoots, editing, audio multitrack recording, live sound production, artist relations, publicity, and stage management.
The performance area has became a popular attraction, with renowned artists such as Lake Street Dive, Valerie June, Mandolin Orange, The Black Lips, Pokey LaFarge, My Bubba, and Elephant Revival drawing big crowds in previous years. This year features another phenomenal lineup of artists, including Cloud Nothings, Cactus Blossoms, Frazey Ford, Mirah, Big Thief, and Aldous Harding. The series was started in 2014 by Antonuccio and developed in conjunction with NMF Director Tim Peacock and Marketing Director Brian Koscho, who were also involved with planning this year’s production.
Each year, OU MDIA students who participate on the production team are given the opportunity to work with a host of national and regional artists and produce video content that has far-reaching national publicity. “I think festival attendees are going to be excited by this year’s lineup,” said Antonuccio. “We are going to be featuring a stellar schedule of national and regional artists and students are looking forward to getting hands-on experience in the production process of a live industry event.”
Previous seasons of the Gladden House Session are now approaching a half million views and are searchable alongside of other major music series, such as NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts and KEXP’s Live In Studio episodes.
The 2017 season will feature 15 episodes, released via WOUB Public Media starting in mid-June. The 3rd season, along with the entire series archives, can be viewed on WOUB Public Media at Gladden House Sessions.
