The Ohio University School of Media Arts and Studies will be offering an exclusive post-production internship class this Summer and Fall in partnership with the innovative web-based Sci-fi series Aidan 5.
The class will give OU MDIA students the opportunity to handle the post-production audio responsibilities for the entire second season of the highly-acclaimed cult show, which is currently in production.
Aidan 5 is produced and filmed in Columbus,OH and is shot entirely in green screen. The world of the show is then hand drawn by a small team of professional comic book artists, giving the show it’s unique and noir-ish effect. Executive Producer and show creator Ben Bays had worked with MDIA professor Josh Antonuccio in the previous season, with Antonuccio and a group of OU students working on the penultimate episode.
Antonuccio and Bays connected earlier this year and discussed the possibility of creating a class that would allow Ohio University MDIA students to handle the post-production audio work of the newest season. "We couldn't be happier to be working with such a talented group of students on this project. We not only found a solid, turn-key solution for Aidan 5, but Josh and his team at OU embodied the spirit of local community that our show was built around" Bays said.
Antonuccio’s nine-student class has started mixing on the first episode and will be working on the second season throughout the remainder of 2014, with Ohio University student Steven Van Dyne serving as the post-production supervisor for both teams.
"Getting to work on Aidan 5 is a blast already, because it isn't often that you get to work with content that you genuinely enjoy as a student,” Van Dyne said. "I think it's a great opportunity for all of us as well, to prove that our program and ourselves have a ton of potential."
Set in the year 2064, Aidan 5 chronicles the journey of one detective who is solving a mystery behind the serial killings of his own clones. The “living comic book” has been nominated for several Webby awards, garnered lavish praise from the science fiction community and even earned a nod from William Shatner. The newest season will be released online throughout 2014. For more information on the show, visit aidan5.com
