COMM 4023: Storytelling, Technology, and Digital Media in Theme Parks is a class taught by Associate Professor Beth Novak and GRID Lab Director John Bowditch. This year the class participated in the Disney Imaginations competition hosted by Walt Disney Imagineering and open to all US college students. In this year’s competition, teams were challenged to select an actual abandoned “ghost town” from anywhere in the world and revitalize it.
There were 270+ entries this year and three teams (12 SCC students from three schools) placed as semifinalists (top 40 projects or 15%). Semifinalists get invited to apply for select Disney Internships and have an opportunity to get feedback and ask questions to Disney Imagineers. In a past year, three Ohio University students along with a student from the University of Washington won 1st place in this competition.
COMM 4023 is offered each year to seniors (at the time of the class) with 15 hours of COMS or ITS or JOUR or MDIA or VICO. Applications and GPA are considered and a list of references is required.
