Media Arts and Studies students involved with ACRN Media are excited to announce the radio station’s annual Lobsterfest music festival will be taking place this year on April 20 and 21. Injury Reserve and JPEGMAFIA will headline Lobsterfest 2018 at The Union Bar & Grill on Friday, with music starting at 9 p.m. and Ricky Eat Acid will headline at Casa Nueva on Saturday, starting at 10 p.m.
“It’s exciting to see ACRN expanding our genres, pulling in new audiences, and breathing new life into an event that’s been happening for over 15 years,” said ACRN Promotions Director and Recording Industry major, Diana Buchert.
The event is free for those over 21 years of age, however there will be a small cover charge for those ages 18 to 20.
Friday night features an eclectic blend of rap and post-punk, including Injury Reserve, JPEGMAFIA, Stems, Swim Team and Hidden Places. Saturday night will promote experimental artists Ricky Eat Acid, Giant Claw, Moonbeau and Test Press.
In a review of the track, “See You Sweat”, Pitchfork said Injury Reserve’s MCs “complement each other well, trading relaxed, half-whispered raps that circle around in the rolling rush of drums.” The publication also calls JPEGMAFIA’s latest album, Veteran, a “remarkable exercise in sound and texture.”
Sunday’s headliner, Ricky Eat Acid, is an experimental producer and songwriter as well as the lead singer of American Pleasure Club (formerly Teen Suicide).
