Media Arts & Studies Professor Frederick Lewis recently spent three weeks as a Fulbright Specialist in Hungary, conducting workshops in content/project development and documentary studies and production at the University of Pecs.
Working with faculty members and students from both the University’s BA program in Film & Visual Culture and the MA program in Film Studies and Communication Professor Lewis designed a three week course of study that culminated in a final week of hands on documentary production for the students, who worked in 5 teams of 3-4, shooting short films on location at a national park outside the historic city of Mohajc, close to the Croatian border.
“This project was the culmination of several years of planning and design,” said Lewis. Professor Laszlo Tarnay from the University of Pecs served as Lewis’s primary liaison throughout the process of project development, application and implementation. Janos Tarkanyi, a Professor at Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj, Romania, served as the technical consultant, conducting camera workshops as well as drone demonstrations.
“After so many years of preparation, it was great to have this project come to fruition,” said Lewis “I am very grateful to have received the support of the Fulbright program. We are now planning to work together again some time in the future, next time in Romania with the focus on Professor Tarkanyi’s students in Cluj.”
