Kim Fox, of American University in Cairo, has been awarded an AEJMC 2018-19 Scripps Howard Foundation Visiting Professorship and will be working with WCPO and wcpo.com in Cincinnati, OH. Kim is a professor in the university's Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. She received her B.S. and M.A. degrees from Ohio University in Athens, OH. She has worked at several radio stations including WIZF in Cincinnati, OH, and WBLK in Buffalo, NY. She's the executive producer of the award-winning Ehky Ya Masr (Tell Your Story Egypt) Podcast about life in Cairo.
Administered by AEJMC and funded by the Scripps Howard Foundation, the Scripps Howard Foundation Visiting Professors in Social Media Program will begin its eighth year with its 2018-19 class of visiting professors.
The Visiting Professors in Social Media will study digital media and the transformation of news and information delivery. In phase one of the programs, the professors will work onsite at different media outlets/venues for two weeks this summer; in phase two, a representative from the outlet/venue will visit the professor's campus during the fall or spring semester.
The grant provides $3,000 for the visiting professor's travel, housing and other expenses for the two-week media outlet visit and $1,250 for expenses related to the outlet representative's campus visit. The foundation is funding six grants for Visiting Professors in Social Media The grant had a panel of judges that evaluated applications based on the value/need of the program for the applicant, impact of the visit on the applicant's home campus, strength of ideas for the professional's visit and the overall quality of the application.The calls for applications were issued in February, and the selection process was completed in May.
