Dr. George Korn has over 25 years of experience as an award-winning producer/director/writer, consultant, and educator. He is a former director of the Ohio University School of Media Arts and Studies.
Dr. Korn is an advisor to Rev. Jesse Jackson and a consultant to the civil rights leader’s international organization, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition. In addition, he also served for a number of years as producer of Upfront with Jesse Jackson, a weekly television talk show broadcast nationally.
Korn’s consulting work centers on developing and executing strategic communication plans and political strategy for organizations engaged in progressive causes. Recently, he has been active in Washington, D.C. and around the country in the effort to maintain and improve the FCC Lifeline program, which helps low-income Americans access affordable telephone service.
His production work includes documentaries, educational and informational projects, commercials, multimedia projects, and websites. He has a long history of involvement with Community Action Agencies as both a producer and a consultant. Korn also has worked in commercial radio, on-air and in copywriting, production and sales. He has international production and consulting experience in the Caribbean and Southeast Asia.
As part of his graduate studies, Korn spent some time in seminary exploring questions of transcendence and truth and their relationship to communication and artistic expression. His work is grounded in the exploration of the role of media and technology in shaping consciousness and an individual’s values and worldview. This interest led to the creation of a course called Personal Values in Media, which gives students the opportunity to explore their personal values and commitments, along with the challenge of living them out in the professional world.
As he considers new projects and directions, Korn is renewing his belief in the power of Art to touch the soul, bring out the best in humanity and change the world.
