Bio

  • Fiction, non-fiction & non-narrative media production
  • Media for social justice & service learning
  • Community & interdisciplinary media

Brian Plow is an educator and media maker with passions for documentary, social justice and cinematography.  Brian is also a proud alumnus of Ohio University’s School of Film.  He has recently returned to Athens to join the School of Media Arts & Studies faculty after teaching, creating new curriculum and developing a variety of creative projects with Towson University and The John Hopkins University.

Brian’s work as a producer, director and cinematographer has been exhibited in festivals throughout North America and Europe, national/international conferences and university programs, as well as top 25 television markets and PBS affiliates in Mid-Atlantic region.

In parallel to his creative work, Brian has been working to develop curriculum and interdisciplinary programs in media, social justice and community outreach.  He co-founded/taught an interdisciplinary service-learning seminar on homelessness in Baltimore; co-founded and fostered a media infusion program for faculty in various disciplines; and continues to serve as the visual media consultant/faculty on the National Science Foundation funded program, Anthropology by the Wire.

Originally from California, Brian enjoys traveling throughout the western US and visiting his folks in the Pacific NW.  He is an outdoor enthusiast, and loves local food & farmers’ markets.  He and his family are thrilled to live and work in Athens, and will, one day, have a farm of their own (with a name like “Plow,” how could they not). By the way, he also loves all Homer Simpson references (“Mr. Plow”), so keep ‘em coming.
