Applications are now being accepted for this year’s Media Sales Institute at Ohio University, which will be held held May 15- May 26.
The Media Sales Institute is a boot camp-style training program for recent college graduates who are interested in careers in media sales. For students accepted to the program, all tuition, room and board are free--that’s a $3000 value! A class size limited to 25 participants at each location equates to an effective student/instructor ratio.Holly Juarez, account executive at Nexstar Broadcasting Group’s WTVO and 2014 MSI program graduate, said "The Media Sales Institute provided me with two weeks of intense learning, networking, and practice in media sales. As a recent college graduate, this was especially important because it gave me a skillset that could only be learned through experience."
Following nine days of workshops, classes, and coaching, student teams will deliver mock sales presentations to local business clients before an audience of media company recruiting representatives. The next day, Thursday, May 26th, students will interview with those companies who are looking to fill entry-level positions.
A high percentage of students who graduate from the Media Sales Institute program are hired for media sales positions. Companies that have already registered to participate include The E.W. Scripps Company, Hearst Television, Raycom Media, Tribune Media, Salem Media Group, Cox Media Group, Sinclair Broadcast Group, WDPR/WDPG, WPKO/WBLL, WKOV, and Family Radio, Inc.
The MSI program is part of NABEF’s commitment to expanding diversity in radio and television broadcasting. “The Media Sales Institute continues to help college students meet the growing demands and challenges of careers in broadcasting and media sales,” said Marcellus Alexander, President, NABEF. “We are proud to partner with Ohio University to develop participants into successful, multi-platform media professionals.”
