An Interview with Ira Kaplan of Yo La Tengo at Ohio University!
On the heels of their critically acclaimed 2013 release "Fade", Yo La Tengo has spent the year in the throes of a worldwide tour which includes major performances at the Pitchfork Music Festival, FYF Fest, and Riot Fest.
On September 17th, Yo La Tengo will be making an exclusive tour stop at Stuart's Opera House in Nelsonville, OH. On the day of the show, The School of Media Arts and Studies and The School of Music are pleased to welcome Yo La Tengo frontman Ira Kaplan down to Ohio University for an on-stage interview about the story and 30-year success of Yo La Tengo. The event will be free and open to the the Ohio University community. Ohio University School of Media Arts and Studies faculty member Josh Antonuccio will be interviewing Ira in the Glidden School of Music Recital Hall from 2-3PM, with some time for questions from audience members.
Yo La Tengo is one of the most beloved and respected bands in America. For nearly thirty years, Ira Kaplan, Georgia Hubley and James McNew have enjoyed success entirely on their own terms – playing the world''s best concert halls, museums, and dives, dominating critics'' lists, doing a Simpsons theme, playing the Velvet Underground in "I Shot Andy Warhol," sharing stages with some of the most important musicians of our time, and even creating a holiday tradition onto themselves with their yearly series of Hanukkah shows at Hoboken, New Jersey''s legendary club Maxwells, from which they''ve donated hundreds of thousands to charity. Yo La Tengo has also composed soundtrack music for a host of feature films including "Junebug", "Adventureland", "Shortbus", and "Old Joy".
From Rolling Stone Magazine: "Incorporating everything from cocktail jazz to psychedelic noise freak-outs to gorgeous acoustic tunes into their albums, Yo La Tengo have been one of the most restless and most consistently good bands of the past 25 years. The trio have been pegged as a critics' band, but their warm, open-armed sound has helped them develop one of the biggest followings in indie rock."
